About The OffSwitch27

Independent by design. Accountable to the community.

We make space for the stories, questions and evidence that help communities understand what is happening around them — in classrooms, along the river, and in the policy conversations that will shape our future.

Mission & vision

WACHA84V: a real OFF switch.

1. Our Mission

A hardware switch no software can override

To give everyone a hardware switch that cannot be overridden by software, updates, or corporations. This is both divine inspiration and technical intervention.

2. Our Vision

Technology on human terms

A world where technology serves on human terms. We believe in co-existence, not elimination — where human and artificial intelligence survive in harmony through enforceable physical control. From Webuye to the world, every home, shop, and phone with a real OFF switch.

3. Our Objective

1 million switches by 2030

To deploy 1 million low-cost WACHA84V AI off-switches across Africa by 2030, starting with a 1,000-unit pilot in Western Kenya — built and maintained by local technicians in Webuye using locally sourced parts, at a cost target under $3 USD.

4. Our Values

What we won't compromise on

  • Control is Physical — If you can't touch it, you don't own it.
  • Frugal by Design — Under $3 solutions for the billions, not luxuries for the few.
  • Child's Choice — Usable by a child or low-literacy user. No apps, no passwords, no confusion — ON/OFF.
  • Dignity First — Built in Webuye, for real shops and homes.
  • Rooted in Purpose — Genesis 1:28, sovereignty of mankind; Habakkuk 2:2–4, write the vision and make it plain; Daniel 1:8, resolved not to defile himself with the king's portion — we resolve not to be defiled by uncontrollable systems.
Background

Rooted in Webuye and Bungoma.

The OffSwitch27 brings together community reporting, education, environment and technology-aware conversations. Our work is shaped by the belief that knowledge should be accessible, careful and useful.

We started as a small, local effort to document what was happening in ECDE classrooms across Bungoma County, and grew into a wider platform covering community life, the environment around River Nzoia, and emerging conversations about technology governance in Africa.

Our position

Community-funded, on purpose

"No NGO money. No county funding. Funded by people watching." This is presented as the organisation's stated position, not as an independently verified claim.

Our values

How we try to work.

Four commitments that guide every report, case file and conversation we publish.

🔍

Truth & evidence

Separate verified facts, supplied materials, perspectives and proposals clearly, so readers can tell them apart.

🫱

Human dignity

Make room for people's voices without reducing them to a headline.

🧭

Independence

Keep the platform transparent about what it knows, what it believes and what it still needs to verify.

🔄

Accountability

Welcome corrections and follow-up, and log updates as a story develops rather than letting it go stale.

Case file

Justice for ECDE, as a Fully Funded Basic Education Right

A structured place for overview, background, petition materials, verified timeline entries, updates and related reports.

  • Overview and background of the campaign
  • What the petition calls for
  • Verified updates and supporting documents
  • A contact and participation pathway for readers

Field visits & documentation

Correspondents visit ECDE classrooms across Bungoma County and record what they observe.

Petition materials collected

Supplied petition documents are organised and kept available for reference.

Verified updates added

Official outcomes and dates are added to the case file only once verified.

Community follow-up

Parent and teacher voices continue to shape what gets reported next.

Knowledge should be accessible, careful and useful — that's the standard we hold ourselves to on every story.

— The OffSwitch27 editorial approach
What we're not

A few honest boundaries.

Not a government or NGO mouthpiece. We are not funded by county or NGO money, and we say so on every relevant page.

Not claiming certainty we don't have. Where something is a proposal, opinion or unverified report, we label it that way rather than presenting it as fact.
